Aloha families,
It is so great to be back from the very cold mainland. My family is from Montana on the Flathead Indian Reservation. I went there for my grandmother’s memorial service. We are from the Kootenai tribe. This is where Chief Joseph hid out from the US army, until his famous speech, I will fight no more forever. Lewis and Clark also documented the tribal history in their famous trip across to the ocean. But more of that story in 5th grade US history. I have full confidence that my entire fourth grade class will do great next year. Their new teachers will love them.
In our class, we are continuing to learn about Hawaiian history. Our next project is canoe building. The ancient Hawaiians were great ocean voyagers using the stars and canoes to travel thousands of miles. This week we began the creative thinking of process drawing designs and developing a material list. This project will be great fun for all of us. The goal is for each student to create a canoe and have it float. We will be sharing our canoes during student exhibitions on May 26.
I know many of you are planning summer trips and want to know when is a good time to leave the island and not miss out on anything. Here are the dates for our end of year events:
Thursday, May 26th-Exhibitions, Student Portfolios (work samples) are due
